PERTEX163 pushes high-density fabrics for fall/winter 2010/2011

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. TechnoProducts recently introduced a high-density fabric designed for outdoor use under the brand name "PERTEX 163" for the fall/winter 2010/2011 season. This new fabric has been well-received, with strong sales growth in key markets such as Europe, the U.S., and Japan in 2009—surpassing previous year's performance by nearly 50%. The company continues to expand its presence in the global textile industry, offering innovative materials that meet evolving consumer demands. In addition to its traditional polyester-nylon blend, PERTEX 163 now includes a 100% cotton option for jackets and other high-density fabrics made from natural fibers. According to Haruo Komatsu, Minister of the Functional Fabrics Division, "PERTEX 163 is more stylish than the original PERTEX, reflecting our new product positioning." Since the last quarter, several products have already been launched, and major domestic fashion brands and apparel companies have placed orders for the fall/winter 2010/2011 trade fair. International outdoor brands have also shown interest in this new fabric. To boost brand visibility, the company plans to implement promotional strategies such as in-store POP (Point of Purchase) advertisements, helping to drive awareness and support retail marketing efforts. With a focus on both functionality and aesthetics, PERTEX continues to evolve and adapt to market trends. Launched in 2005, PERTEX is a UK-imported fabric brand that has since expanded across multiple areas—from material development and production to brand building. Since its introduction in Japan, sales have more than doubled. Light, high-density fabrics below 20 denier account for 70% of total production, with 90% of orders coming from overseas. The Japanese casual wear market is showing steady growth, offering new opportunities for expansion. While maintaining its reputation as a high-performance fabric brand, Mitsui & Co. aims to integrate into the casual wear segment, aiming to increase market share. The company believes that the features of PERTEX 163 align well with current trends in fashion-oriented fabrics. As a result, they expect sales to rise by 30% to 40% in 2010, reflecting confidence in the product’s future success.
