Shishi cloth 10 years to jump a few strides

On July 30, the China Textile Industry Association announced the opening of the Product Development Award nominations. That same morning, the Shishi Cloth Association sent SMS notifications to all member companies. By the afternoon, several major fabric companies—including Taiwan Long, Sanyuan, Evergreen, Everbright, Xinshengda, and Leisure—had already collected the application forms. So far, over 10 fabric companies have confirmed their participation. Although the evaluation criteria are strict, the backbone enterprises in Shishi’s textile industry are known for their determination and high aspirations. The products submitted for the award are not only technologically advanced but also feature strong fashion elements. While many of the fabrics are made from cotton, Tencel, polyester, nylon, hemp, or spandex blends, they showcase innovative weaving techniques and are primarily targeted at the high-end market. Since the start of this year, with intensified market competition and rapid technological advancements, the awareness of innovation among Shishi’s leading fabric manufacturers has significantly increased. Many companies have ramped up R&D efforts, focusing on low-carbon and eco-friendly fibers. They’ve developed a wide range of highly competitive new products. Not only have they made progress in outdoor functional fabrics, but they've also excelled in ultra-thin high-density synthetic fabrics and bio-based super-soft materials. For example, Jinli Fabric has introduced Tencel and spandex blends, as well as high-count long-staple cotton compact fabrics, which offer excellent drape and wrinkle resistance. TSMC has focused on fiber arrangement and finishing technologies, creating “modified polyester fabric” that is widely used by well-known garment factories. They also creatively applied the “discharge process” to improve color fastness when printing on nylon, drawing attention from some high-end foreign customers. Dafa Company has been working on high-density fabric innovation, developing a 15D fabric that is highly competitive in the high-end market. Federal Sanhe has mixed Tencel with other fibers, resulting in unique appearances and significantly boosting the value of their textiles. Staying ahead of market demand is a key goal for Shishi’s fabric R&D teams. The latest trend is to combine the advantages of natural fibers and synthetic ones, aiming to create fabrics that feel like cotton but perform like polyester. Recently, Sanyuanbu Industry gathered representatives from its offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing to share market insights and discuss next year's fabric developments. Sanyuan focuses on blending different fibers, such as nylon and cotton, to enhance wear resistance while maintaining the softness and comfort of cotton. Wen Hing Fabric has partnered with domestic garment companies to form a fashion alliance, continuously adapting to the demands of the high-end market. This year, they’ve achieved success with bio-based and bamboo fiber fabrics. From the late 1990s, when Shishi was known for shaked cloth and flocking fabrics, to the early 2000s with snow grams-coated cloth and Tencel, the industry has evolved rapidly. Today, it leads in color weaving, ultra-thin high-density fabrics, bamboo charcoal, and bio-based fiber materials. In just 10 years, Shishi’s textile industry has made remarkable strides, earning admiration from the domestic sector. At a recent seminar in Tianjin on textile market demand in the Bohai Bay region, a leader from the China Textile Association noted that Shishi’s casual fabrics have indeed taken the lead nationally in the past two years. Guided by R&D, Shishi’s textile industry leverages the strength of its local dyeing and garment manufacturing base to produce high-quality, innovative products aimed at the high-end market. This supports both the lion and surrounding garment industries, helping to build a strong textile and apparel industry chain and driving the entire sector toward higher-end development. **Related Links:** Currently, Shishi is home to over 1,000 textile and fabric production and operation enterprises, including textile mills, dyeing and finishing plants, with an annual output value exceeding 20 billion yuan. It employs more than 100,000 people and owns over 10,000 looms. The industry has formed a complete supporting system covering cotton spinning, weaving, dyeing, finishing, textile machinery manufacturing, product development, sales, testing, and information services. Additionally, there are over 1,000 accessory manufacturing companies in Shishi, offering a wide range of processing technologies, including hardware accessories, plastic clothing accessories, computer embroidery, labels, zippers, linings, buttons, and packaging.
