Shishi cloth 10 years to jump a few strides

July 30 marked the official start of the China Textile Industry Association Product Development Award application process. That same morning, the Shishi Fabric Association sent SMS notifications to all member companies, informing them of the opportunity. By the afternoon, several well-known fabric companies—such as Taiwan Long, Sanyuan, Evergreen, Everbright, Xinshengda, and Leisure—had already collected their application forms. Currently, over 10 fabric companies are expected to participate in this prestigious competition. The evaluation criteria are strict, but Shishi’s leading fabric industry is known for its innovation and ambition. The products being prepared for submission not only showcase strong technological innovation and fashion elements, but also feature a wide range of fiber combinations, including cotton, Tencel, polyester, nylon, hemp, and spandex blends. These fabrics offer unique weaving patterns and are primarily targeted at the high-end market. Since the beginning of the year, facing intense market competition and rapid advancements in technology and materials, Shishi’s leading fabric companies have significantly strengthened their focus on innovation. Many have ramped up R&D efforts, with some even exploring low-carbon and eco-friendly fibers. As a result, numerous competitive new products have emerged, excelling in both outdoor functional fabrics and advanced synthetic materials like ultra-thin high-density fabrics and bio-based super-soft fabrics. For example, Jinli Fabric has developed Tencel and spandex blends with improved drape and wrinkle resistance, while TSMC has introduced "modified polyester fabric" that has been widely adopted by major garment factories. They’ve also innovated with a "discharge process" to enhance color fastness in nylon printing, catching the attention of foreign high-end clients. Dafa Company has made significant progress in high-density fabric innovation, introducing a 15D fabric that is highly competitive in the premium market. Federal Sanhe has blended Tencel with other fibers, creating unique textures and boosting textile value. Staying ahead of market demand is a key goal for Shishi's fabric companies. They aim to combine the advantages of natural fibers with those of synthetic ones. Recently, Sanyuanbu Industry gathered representatives from its offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing to share insights and plan for next year’s fabric developments. Sanyuan has focused on blending different fibers, such as cotton and nylon, to improve durability while maintaining a soft, comfortable feel. Wen Hing Fabric has partnered with domestic garment companies to form a fashion alliance, adapting to high-end market demands. This year, they've achieved notable results with bio-based and bamboo fiber fabrics. Over the past decade, Shishi’s fabric industry has evolved rapidly—from shantung and flock fabrics in the late 20th century to snow gram-coated cloth, polyester velvet, Tencel, imitation Tencel, and high-count, high-density fabrics. Today, it leads in color weaving, ultra-thin high-density, bamboo charcoal, and bio-based fiber fabrics. At a recent seminar on textile market demand in Tianjin, a leader from the China Textile Association noted that Shishi’s casual fabrics have taken the lead nationally in recent years. Guided by R&D, the industry leverages local dyeing and garment manufacturing strengths to develop high-quality, innovative products aimed at the premium market. This not only supports Shishi’s garment industry but also helps build a robust textile and apparel industrial chain, driving the entire sector toward higher-value development. **Related Links:** Shishi now hosts over 1,000 textile and fabric enterprises, including mills, dyeing plants, and finishing facilities, with an annual output exceeding 20 billion yuan.
