To give you a better idea, here's a step-by-step guide on how to add elastic to the waist of a t-shirt dress. It’s surprisingly straightforward.
Begin by cutting a piece of elastic that’s approximately one inch shorter than the waist measurement of your dress. Overlap the ends of the elastic by about half an inch to an inch and secure them with a zigzag stitch. Divide the elastic into quarters using pins to make it easier to work with.
Next, turn your t-shirt dress inside out and fold it in half, aligning the side seams. Mark the center back and front of the dress with pins. Place the elastic over the dress, aligning the pins on the elastic with the side seams and the center front and back markers.
