my favorite oliver + s pattern: shelley from lightning mcstitch

Today we’re thrilled to welcome back Shelley (better known as Lightning McStitch), who has been running the delightful Little Things to Sew: Cover to Cover Challenge on her blog. Shelley stopped by to share her thoughts on her favorite Oliver + S pattern—the Nature Walk Pullover and Knit Pants. Thank you so much, Shelley! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading the “my favorite Oliver + S pattern” blog posts, but I often found myself pondering: How do people pick just one? If someone asked me which pattern I’d choose, I’d probably struggle—choosing a favorite is kind of like picking between your children, isn’t it? Though no one actually asked, here I am sharing my thoughts on which of Liesl’s creations holds my heart. Picking a favorite felt like solving that tricky “favorite kid” dilemma. What exactly do I love most about these little ones?... By the end of a busy day, I think I prefer them to be straightforward and uncomplicated. That’s exactly how I feel about the Nature Walk Pants (which is also available as an Oliver + S Singles pattern for instant download). They’re so simple and fast to sew. Need some quick shorts for tomorrow's childcare run? No problem: --- ![Hinjul5_NatureWalk](#) Perhaps something for the newest addition in your family? --- ![Inderific_NatureWalk](#) Or maybe something stylish for a bigger kid? --- ![justmejay_NatureWalk](#) Honestly, wouldn’t we all adore a pair of pants that look this good from behind? --- ![cknitress_NatureWalk](#) But let’s face it—if children were always easygoing and simple, they’d get boring, right? I also love a touch of cleverness and personality. A bit of wit makes raising them more fun and engaging. Enter the Nature Walk Pullover. With its color-blocking panels, the ingenious kangaroo pocket, and the elegant collar and placket, this pattern keeps any sewer entertained. You can keep it classic with plain fleece: --- ![etcetera147_NatureWalk](#) Here’s a timeless boys’ pullover: --- ![LittleGray_NatureWalk](#) Equally charming on girls: --- ![bred2make_NatureWalk](#) And if you’re lucky enough, you might even borrow your kid’s pullover for yourself! --- ![Nicole1974_NatureWalk](#) So far, we’ve got a smart, interesting, easygoing, and adaptable pattern. What’s not to love? Add some creativity, and this pattern becomes even more exciting. Here’s a tween version with a hood: --- ![sallyavena_NatureWalk](#) I experimented with adding a hood and some pocket ruffles to mine: --- ![lightningmcstitch1_NatureWalk](#) This is where things get really fun! Don’t you love it when kids surprise you with their creativity, intelligence, and humor? For me, the Nature Walk pattern has provided countless such moments—whether through my own sewing or browsing the Oliver + S Flickr pool. From octonauts to robots, this pattern has inspired some incredible costumes: --- ![CostumeMosaic_NatureWalk](#) Credits (L to R, Top to Bottom): 1. Bender by emilysteed 2. Captain Barnacles by suzy at floating world 3. Davy Crockett by round-the-world-girl 4. Mermaid by with love, Heidi 5. Evel Knievel by lightningmcstitch1 6. I appreciate pretty dresses just as much as anyone else. But don’t you love a pattern that’s practical, enjoyable to sew, and occasionally makes you laugh until your sides ache? Or, you could simply download the Nature Walk Singles PDF pattern and whip up some quick yoga pants for your kids' dance class tomorrow. Just remember, if you create something hilariously creative, share it with me—I feel like this one is my baby now! --- (Ads appear here) --- **Related Posts:** *(List of related content appears below)*
